Separation equipment

Separation has been the basis of Alfa Laval's production process since its inception in 1883 for the commercial implementation of the milk separator invented by Gustave de Laval. The technology is used to separate liquids as well as separate solid particles from liquid. Recently, the application of the technology has expanded to include the separation of particles from gases.

Separation plays an important role in a number of industrial processes, such as:

  • Processing of liquids in the food, pharmaceutical, chemical and petrochemical industries;
  • Extraction and processing of crude oil;
  • Processing of fuel and lubricating oils on ships and power plants;
  • Processing of industrial effluents;
  • Sludge dewatering at wastewater treatment plants;
  • Cleaning of crankcase gases of diesel engines of trucks and ships.

Separators

The main concept of using separators in modern production conditions is the rapid and high–quality separation of various liquids and solids in a continuous mode.

Decanter centrifuges

Decanter centrifuges are usually based on horizontal separation technology and operate at a reduced speed.

Membrane filtration

Separation of smaller and smaller particles in the technological flow is becoming an important task for many industries. Membrane filtration allows efficient separation of the smallest particles.

Filters

The product range includes fuel and lubricating oil filters for large engines, filters to protect cooling equipment, drum thickeners designed to thicken sludge.
